Vesak Day 2019

On 19 May Sunday, Vesak Day was celebrated at Shinnyo-en Singapore. The day began with prayers for peace and harmony in the world, starting with our immediate surroundings.

After the prayers, guests were invited to pour sweet tea over the image of the newborn Buddha, following Buddhist tradition. At this year’s event, a food and merchandise bazaar was held where members sold items ranging from household items to educational books for guests to take home. Over at the food bazaar, members had the opportunity to demonstrate their cooking skills by selling tasty home-cooked food at affordable prices. Overall, it was a great day for Shinnyo-en member and guests to come together in harmony and celebrate the true meaning of Vesak Day – a day of joy, reflection and peace.
